Kathmandu: Ministry of Urban Development has planned to build an integrated settlement for the marginalized Santhal community in Urlabari of Morang. The masterplan for the project has already been finalized and Prime minister KP Sharma Oli will be putting the foundation stone on Tuesday, 18th of Falgun.
The settlement is being built in the bank of Ratoholi canal of Urlabari municipality. The ministry had earlier conducted field research in the very community where 106 families of Santhal and 26 families of Urau were found to be landless.
Following the data, the ministry planned to build houses for 26 Urau and 106 Santhal families. The construction is set to be build within the area of 31,768 sq.km and would cost Rs 30 crores as per the estimation of the ministry.
For each family, there will be at least 2 bedrooms, one kitchen and a toilet. Supporting infrastructures like road, drinking water, park, canal conservation, child development centre, community hall etc are also being build and it's master plan has also been completed.
This is the second and the most important urban development project being initiated by the ministry after Prabhu Shah, the minister of Urban Development, sustained the post. President Bidya Devi Bhandari has also given keen interest towards this project.
